Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Sometimes a girl just needs her BFF and a night out.  And that is exactly what my friend Megan and I needed.  We've been besties since our Freshman year of High School and haven't really seen each other in the last 10 years.  It's not that we grew apart, but after High School I joined the Air Force and moved away.  Then we both started our own families so getting together was hard.  But now that my family has moved back to Ohio we're finally able to hang out again.

So for the last few weeks we've been planning this night out.  A night out without our husband and kids is a rare event so we wanted to make the most of it.  When I saw this dress from Shop at Obsession I couldn't stop drooling over it and knew I had to have it.  The gold and black damask print with the flowy black top is just simply stunning.  I kept my accessories simple because the skirt portion was the main focal point.

We ended up eating at an amazing restaurant from the Greene called The Pub.  The appetizers, wine and main course were all just so good I couldn't stop eating, even when I was stuffed.  I was even proud of myself for trying out a new cheese, gouda!

My yummy appetizer ( I swear I'm a totally picture foodie! )
Mozzerella "Bullocks" with a glass of Sequin Wine.  Seriously, who can resist a glass of wine called sequin?!

My main course was a British comfort food.
Buttermilk Chicken with Gouda Mac n Cheese and a small side salad.  Delicious!

Summertime Floral

(It was so beautiful out side this afternoon I decided to do my blogging from the porch)

I have to admit.  I am completely obsessed with this kimono.  If I could I'd wear it everyday, but then I'd probably start to get some weird looks from my neighbors!  I love how it's so versatile.  I can dress it up or down and wear it all year round.  I love when I can find pieces that will last forever.

I'm going out to meet a friend at our favorite place tonight (Barnes and Noble..YES!) and I wanted to be somewhat dressy but still casual since it's a bookstore.  So what says dressy casual than some cute summer white shorts and an amazing floral kimono?!  And I even shocked myself by buying some white nail polish and rocking the all white look.  Totally out of my comfort zone, but I figured hey as long as I like it who cares!

White is slowly becoming more and more of a staple item in my closet.  It's great how there is no longer the "rule" saying you can't wear white after Labor Day.  Psh.  Wear white year round and its always amazing.  I'm already planning on rocking these shorts with the white nail polish for the 4th of July.  To me white is just like black.  A staple and a neutral that can go with anything and can be worn in so many different ways.

Colors that Pop

I love a good rain storm.  The sound of the rain falling, the clouds rolling in and out and of course how everything seems to thrive when it rains.  But what I hate most is the after effect.  The summer humidity it brings with it.  We had an amazing rain storm last night and now we are paying for it.  The humidity is so thick it's almost feels like I can swim through it.

So I decided to cheer up today with a nice pop of color.  I stuck to wearing some darker tones then with this amazing hot pink top from Bloom, to really make my outfit pop.  Adding in a few different shades of blues with the jewelry and handbag really completed the look.

Sometimes just a nice pop of color can really brighten your day!  Lately I've been branching out and trying a few new looks and combinations that I never would have tried before.  I always tend to stay with the darker tones, but lately I've been drawn towards a few brighter shades.  The necklace I'm rocking today is from my latest Lia Sophia jewelry party and I have to say it is probably my favorite piece.  It seems to work with just about everything in my closet.  I love how it makes the pink in the top stand out even more!

Fall in Love

Don't you love it when you buy a new piece of clothing and you just can't wait to wear it?  I'm normally not into floral or "hippie" type clothing, but when I saw this top from Riff Raff I had to have it.  Only downside is the humidity here lately has been miserable so wearing anything that is required to be worn on the arms makes me think twice before putting it on.  So I was afraid I wouldn't be able to wear this adorable top until we had a cooler day or until Fall came.  But once this gorgeous skirt from Shop at Obsession came in the other day I knew these two were meant to be paired together.  I'll just make sure to stay inside where the air conditioning is!

When I first got up this morning I already had planned to wear this skirt.  But I was torn on which top to pair it with.  Like I said I'm not a fan of wearing long sleeves (even if it is chiffon) during the summer months.  I don't enjoy sweating the pounds off.  So I had originally paired it with a simple brown tank.  But each time I looked in the mirror it just didn't look complete.  And since I had already decided that the top from Riff Raff would look amazing with it, I decided to try it out.  And I am so glad I did.  I love that even though these are more "Fall" colors, with the playful skirt and loose top it makes it work for summer.  I decided to keep the brown tank on underneath (mainly for support) and I like how it gives it a more completed look to the outfit.

Have you ever bought something that you knew you couldn't live without but had to wait awhile before you could actually wear it?

Black and White and Read All Over

I'm a huge bookworm.  I picked this trait up from my mom and I couldn't be happier.  Being a military spouse we've moved several times and starting over is always hard.  But with my books it feels like I always have an escape or friends when I need them.  Since we are still getting settled in our new home, I've had my nose glued to my Kindle Fire downloading book after book.  I normally go for my romance or paranormal type books, but I broke away from that last week.  While browsing for a new book the cover of One Lavender Ribbon caught my attention.  I know I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I do.  If the cover peeks my interested I'm more likely to pick it up and see what its about.  And with them one I was so glad that I did.

One Lavender Ribbon is an amazing story about finding yourself and believing in love all over again.  I don't want to give any spoilers out, but I highly recommend this book to everyone.  There's a little bit of history (even though its a work of fiction) regarding WWII, lots of laughter, tears and smiles.  Below is a quick synopsis on the book.

Can a stack of long-hidden love letters from a WWII war hero inspire a heartbroken woman to love again?

Reeling from a bitter divorce, Adrienne Carter abandons Chicago and retreats to the sun, sand, and beauty of Southern Florida, throwing herself into the restoration of a dilapidated old Victorian beach house. Early into the renovations, she discovers a tin box hidden away in the attic that reveals the emotional letters from a WWII paratrooper to a young woman who lived in the house more than a half-century earlier.

The old letters—incredibly poetic and romantic—transcend time, and they arouse in Adrienne a curiosity that leads her to track down the writer of the letters. William “Pops” Bryant is now an old man living in a nearby town with his handsome but overprotective grandson, Will. As Adrienne begins to unravel the secrets of the letters (and the Bryants), she finds herself not yet willing to give up entirely on love.

Casual with a side of Cupcakes

It's summertime.  And what better way to kick off summer than with some yummy sweets?  I decided to try out a new way of making cupcakes and something extra to spoil my family with.  My solution: Twix Cupcakes.  Yup.  I did!

I didn't really do anything special.  Just a chocolate cupcake with some icing made from scratch.  I then drizzled some melted chocolate (would have done caramel too, but I was all out) followed by some turtle flavored sprinkles.  To top it off I added 1/2 of a Twix mini.  Needless to say this was a huge hit with my kids and husband!  Next time I want to try some Rolo, Snickers and Reese cupcakes.

Of course you can't eat cupcakes before dinner (well not always), so I decided to treat my husband to a delicious dinner.  I'm hooked on Pampered Chef and I love pretty much every recipe they have.  Yesterday I decided to try out the Lemon Greek Chicken.  And what do you know... delicious!

(Follow link for the recipe: Lemon Greek Chicken)

We paired this with some butter rice and some rolls.  Perfect meal!

Yesterday's outfit was all about the comfort.  During my visit to Bloom this past weekend I saw this simple white tshirt and decided I had to have it.  And O-M-G... talk about soft.  It is so light weight that I wasn't dying of heat stroke with the humidity outside.  This will definitely be one of my favorite go to shirts!
