Floral and Cakes

I've been having so much fun making and decorating cakes.  For Valentine's Day I made a simple cake with homemade chocolate covered strawberries and added some handmade calla lilies.  The top was covered in a chocolate glaze and had a twinkie cream filling!  Needless to say it was delicious!

The last week I've been pretty busy in my kitchen baking cakes.  I spent the most time working on my son's 6th birthday cake and making royal icing flowers for my cake decorating class.  Tuesday was our course 2 final and we had to make a cake using the things we had learned in that course.  I decided my cake would have daffodils and lilies.  And it turned out so much better than I thought it would!

My son's Lego Present Cake (everything is handmade.)  Candy legos and a gum paste bow.

My Course 2 Final Cake.

Since I've developed a passion for cake decorating and flowers, I decided to start trying to make gum paste flowers.  My first attempt was a calla lily, which turned out better than expected.  I still need to try the coloring part to make them look more life like.

And today my goal was to try the stargazer lily.  This one took most of the afternoon.  I had to roll, cut and color the gum paste.  The wait a few hours for them to try.  Paint the petals, wrap and them piece them together.  But I was pretty pleased with the end result!  Can't wait to try out more flowers!  Next week I'm planning to make a King Cake and a Mardi Gras themed cake!

Heaven Sent Maxi

Don't you just hate when the weather is gorgeous and warm one day, then the next its cold and windy?  Yup exactly what happened this weekend.  Saturday was amazing and warm, then Sunday we had to break out the jackets again.

But I wasn't going to let the cold weather stop me from wearing this amazing new dress I bought.  Thankfully since it's a maxi dress (and surprisingly long enough on my 5'9" frame) I was able to wear a pair of warm leggings and boots under it to help keep me warm.  I normally don't wear maxis since I'm rather tall and most times the hem ends right at my ankles and I hate that.  But this one measured long enough so I decided to go ahead and give it a try and I was so thrilled when I tried it on and it fit like a glove!

Sunday was also a day of celebrating.  My son turned 6 today (Monday) and we celebrated his birthday with his friends yesterday.  So of course I've spent the last several days prepping everything for his lego themed cake.  I ended up making so much candy to decorate the cake with I might have put all the kids who came into a sugar coma!  But it was worth it.  My son had a blast and all of his friends had a great time as well.

In the Wild

Today ended up being a rather busy day.  But the weather was beautiful and I was so happy to be able to go outside with out a jacket on.  So instead I opted for this beautiful animal print chiffon cardigan.  I've started to gravitate more and more towards these types of items.  They're perfect for all seasons and can easy make your outfit stand out.  I'm looking forward to pairing these with my white shorts once the weather gets a tad bit warmer out!

Polka Dot Peek-a-Boo

I know I've been totally MIA lately.  Things have been insane around here getting our house set and ready to sell and with the movers coming to take away about 75% of our house.  Between all that craziness and my other day to day to-dos I just haven't found the time to really work on creating some new outfits.

But that's about to change!

Yesterday I celebrated my 29th (eek) birthday and I couldn't be happier.  My husband bought me a new top that I have been eyeing at Maurices for awhile and I'm so excited to wear it!

Birthday lunch at a local Asian resturant
Birthday gifts from my amazing husband and kids
Gifts from my sister over in Japan
And on top of that Spring IS coming (whether Mother Nature got that memo or not!) and I can't wait to start breaking out my heels, skirts, tanks and other amazing spring fashions.

So of course I've been keeping my eye out on all my favorite boutiques and stores and slowly grabbing some of the newest fashions so I'm ready to go.  My goal this year is to start wearing dresses and skirts more often.  My husband loves to see me in them and they are just so much fun and girlie.

What are some of your favorite boutiques and stores that you love to shop at?

Flirty Stripes Take 2

I love this tunic/dress.  I posted it in an earlier post (here) but I wanted to show how changing up a few items (like shoes and accessories) can give the look a whole different vibe.  In my previous post I added lots of brown accessories which was a cute casual outfit.  Pairing it was a the black boots and accessories make today's outfit so much more dressier.  I love how one item in your closet can be used in multiple ways just by changing things up!

Casual Cardigan

I know I've been MIA the last several days.  But with this cold weather and just spending quality time at home I haven't really been worried about my outfits.  Mainly I've been vegging in my pajamas or wearing some nice warm clothes.  I was supposed to go to my Course 2 cake decorating class today, so I got all dressed and ready to go.  Only for Mother Nature to decide to dump a ton of ice on us.

So even though my plans were cancelled (and thankfully moved to another day), I didn't want today's outfit to go to waste.  And with the weather just to darn cold and icy out, we decided to take today's pictures inside.  Sorry for the poor lighting.

This cardigan is so buttery soft that I wish you could feel it through the screen!  I stopped into one of the local boutiques that I love (Rhinestone Avenue) to pick up a couple of camis and saw this cardigan and just feel in love with the color.  It is such a bright jewel tone and the material is ultra soft.  Who could resist?!  And it's very lightweight so I can wear it throughout the year!
