Lazy Day

Well today's blog will be a little bit all over the place.  I'm still feeling pretty under the weather so getting dressed up has not been my priority.

I spent most of yesterday trying to get a lot done while trying not to fall over and pass out from feeling like death.  Over the weekend much wasn't accomplished and I really needed to get some laundry going.  For some reason everyone seems to think they need clean clothes!  Well the best thing is I was able to get the clothes washed and dried.. putting them away is a whole other story!  On top of that I had to take my daughter to the doctor since she wasn't feeling good either.  Thankfully she lucked out with just a nasty cold.  Whew!

I'm also a key spouse (someone who helps out with all the other spouses) at my husbands work, I had volunteered to do something special for birthday people each month.  This month I decided to make yet another batch of my Reese cupcakes (recipe found here at Somewhat Simple blog).  But to do something a little extra special I made little gift boxes of homemade chocolates for each person who had a birthday this month.  Pumpkin Spice, White Chocolate and Dark Mint.  I hope everyone enjoys them.  And ps I washed my hands about a million times during my baking yesterday to prevent passing any germs on.

Well unfortunately after my busy day, I was starting to feel a lot worse.  My voice was pretty much gone  and I couldn't stop coughing.  I decided I had enough and took my booty to the ER.  After about a 3 hour wait (thank God for my Kindle Fire) I was finally told by the doctor that I'm the lucky winner of not only an Upper Respiratory Infection, but also I won a nice case of Laryngitis.  Seriously could I be any luckier?

With all that fun I had yesterday, I decided today would be a laid back lazy day.  Wrapped up in one of my favorite oversized sweaters and fluzzy socks, I've been downing some tea and curled up with my newest book.

I'm about 90% through Melanie Shawn's Sweet Reunion- Hope Falls Series.  And so far it is so good.  I love a good low key romance book.  Especially on days when I'm feeling down.  One of my favorite things about reading, is it lets me escape my world and go someplace else.

Here is a quick synopsis of this book.  Only .99 cents at amazon!

For Amanda Jacobs, dealing with the pain of losing her beloved Dad is the toughest thing she's ever gone through, and it comes with a lot of complications, as well - like taking over the family business, Mountain Ridge Outdoor Adventures. It makes her miss the simplicity of being a teenager, when she was surrounded by her amazing friends, The Fabulous Four, and she was madly in love with her Dad's right hand man, Justin Barnes. His sexy smiles and deep brown eyes had made her heart race in a way she's never felt before or since. When the Fabulous Four unexpectedly show up on her doorstep to support her through this complicated time, things seem to be looking up for Amanda. But that's not the only surprise visit in store for her...

Justin Barnes left Hope Falls ten years ago, in the dead of night, and didn't think he'd ever set foot there again. That was just fine with him, except for one little complication: Amanda Jacobs. He had fallen in love with her unruly blonde curls and sparkling sapphire eyes, but she had been a teenager then, five years younger than he - too young for him to act on his attraction. Still, he'd missed her every single day of those ten years. When Justin receives a phone call that his former mentor has passed away, he knows he has to return to Hope Falls. Justin just has one question - will the girl that once adored him have grown into a woman that can't stand him? Or will she still be the only thing in the world that feels like home?

Sorry for the lack of fashion and daily style for today, but I need to take it easy and get better so I can be there more for my husband and kids.  Hopefully in the next day or two I will be back to my normal bubbly self!

Fall Heat

This post is a couple of days late.  Lucky me came down with a nasty cold that's pretty much knocked me out all weekend.  Hopefully I can get over it soon, b/c I have way too much to do!

I wore this for my Friday OOTD.  My husband's work was having a family Oktoberfest and with the temps deciding to go back up into the 80s I had to wear shorts (or pass out from the heat).  But since it's officially Fall I wanted to keep the color palette in the darker tones.  I've actually had these items for a couple of years now and never thought to mix the two.

The dark brown tweed like shorts worked perfectly with the dark orange sweater.  It was definitely perfect for Oktoberfest and for Fall.  And it worked double time since we ended up going to a car show later that night and once the sun set so did the temperature.  It was a win win all around.

This weekend was also my dad's 60th birthday.  I still can't believe he's 60!  My mom had planned a nice surprise party for him, and told him she wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it or not.  Well of course we did!  I haven't been able to celebrate my dad's birthday in over 11 years so this was a great treat for both of us.

Dad had seen some cupcakes I had made earlier this month and was drooling over the computer screen.  So mom had asked if I'd make some for him.  I ended up making him a delicious (and very sweet) Reese's cake with cupcakes on the side.

I found this recipe thanks to Pinterest and if any of you love to bake I highly recommend this.  The peanut butter icing is so insanely good.

Sassy in Plaid

I normally don't wear outfits like the one I wore yesterday, mainly because I'm a stay at home mom.  Needless to say that doesn't stop me from getting dressed up, but business chic type outfits normally don't come out of my closet.  There are no "mom" meetings (well unless there's a secret society that I'm unaware of!) so owning/wearing business attire is kind of pointless.

But once I saw my favorite local boutique, Bloom, post this dress I had to have this.  One plaid is very in this season, two its black and white (hello!) and third its just so pretty with lots of ways to style this.  I already can't wait to wear this again!  The dress comes with this adorable belt with a cute gold buckle.  I decided since I had a PTO meeting (still can't believe I'm old enough to have a child in school that allows me to join a PTO!) I would add my black blazer to give it a more polished look.  Then to finish off I added my low heel (to me anything until 4 inches is considered low!) suede slouchy boots with my favorite Michael Kors bag.

I would love to find ways to incorporate more ways to bring business attire into my everyday wardrobe.  I love pencil skirts, blazers and button downs.  Which blazers are amazing to pair with just about anything, but sadly I don't know how to add pencil skirts to my mommy life.

Casual Floral

I am so in love with this top, but I haven't had many chances to wear it.  With it being off the shoulder I can't really wear it on days when I know I'll be busy, bc it's just plain annoying to have to readjust the band around my shoulders every 5 minutes.  Or it's either been to hot to wear it.  Thankfully yesterday was the perfect day.  Mid 70s.  That perfect weather where you can wear jeans and boots and a loose fitting top like this without wanting to pass out from the heat.  I know I probably won't get to many more chances to wear this top this year, but I'm hoping to get at least a few more chances!

A few months ago I paired this top with an amazing burnt orange skirt (the picture makes it look more red).  I just love when you can an article of clothing and completely change the style and feel of it.  Here it's more casual/laid back, where as when I wore it here it's more dressed up.

Distressed + Snakeskin Print

I love to dress according to my mood that day.  Yesterday I was feeling a little edgy but wanted to pretty as well.  I love this top that I bought last year from Hazel & Olive.  It's great to pair with just about any color combination or bottoms.  And what better way to give a snakeskin print an edge than some amazing distressed skinnies and knee high boots?!  I love the combination.

Mixing Black and Browns

I've been playing in my closet the last couple of nights trying to re-make a few outfits.  I want to make some of my spring/summer clothes work for Fall and to make other items from seasons past work for this season.  Needless to say it's been fun.  Nothing like being a girl and playing in your closet.  Jeff always rolls his eyes when he comes upstairs and there I am acting like a 5 year old who doesn't want to stop playing dress-up!

Yesterday's outfit was a last year buy, but it looks a little more updated with the ankle booties I'm wearing this year.  I love the look, perfect for running errands but still styling!

How do you revamp your last years items to work for a new year?

Transitioning into Fall

One of the hardest parts, to me, about transitioning into a new season is finding an outfit that will work for all day.  For the Fall season the mornings typically start out pretty chilly, then warm up during the afternoon and slowly cool off again.  Most days I'm just chilling out at home so having to worry about isn't to big of a deal.  But on days like yesterday when I had errands to run and a craft show to do, I needed something to work for all day.

So I ended up wearing my jeggings with my favorite boots.  They're comfortable for running around and being in for hours.  Then pairing it with a sheer top helps too.  It's breezy for when the temps start to climb, but will still keep me somewhat covered when the temp drops again.

How do you transition into Fall?  Do you add a scarf for the chilly part of the day and remove it when it's warm?  Or do you add a jacket or blazer?  I'm always curious to see what others do and I'd love some more tips!

Rule Breaker

Who says you can't wear white after Labor Day?!  Well I'm breaking that rule right here and now!

I love the new rule that there isn't any rules.  Mix patterns and colors, wear white all year round and the list goes on.  And I personally love the idea of wearing white in Fall and Winter.  It makes for the perfect accent color to all the other colors of the season.  Especially when you add a killer pair of boots it really makes those white pants stand out.

Today's outfit was all about comfort with a splash of style.  The sweater was another new buy from The Mint Julep (seriously you guys if you haven't checked out their website yet you don't know what you're missing!) and OMG do I love it.  I love the dolman sleeves, how it's oversized and not to mention extremely comfortable.

Because this sweater is hi-lo I had to pair it with a long cami under it to make it look appropriate on me.  So I kept the cami to a neutral color to blend in with the sweater and I think the final results were perfect!  Add a few light accessories and an amazing pair of boots and this outfit was ready for lazying around the house and running a few errands.
