Casual Day

We hit the 40's!  Heat Wave!  I decided to try something different and take the photos outside.  And after seeing how these photos turned out, I can't believe I haven't done this sooner!  The pictures turned out so much better and didn't require me to edit.

I kept today's outfit simple since I was doing some organizing around the house and took my daughter to gymnastics (which ended in a nightmare.. she's hit the diva stage).  I seem to be drawn to the skinny jeans and loose top look, which makes me curious.. what's your favorite combination of items?

Cake Madness

All this cold weather is keeping me inside and curled up under a thick layer of blankets.  I've never been a huge fan of cold weather and with the constant artic blasts, I'm hating it even more.

So I haven't really been working on cute looks over the last several days, since I've been choosing warmth over style!  But I promise I'll post some new outfits once my body thaws out!

I decided to make today's post about something that makes everyone happy.  Cakes and cupcakes!  You're smiling now aren't you?!  Just the thought of a delicious cake that's so prettily decorated always puts a smile on my face too.

I decided to post all of my favorite cakes that I've made.  I just finished my first cake decorating course at Michael's last night.  And it was so much fun.  It was just the basics in buttercream, but also the basics needed in decorating.  I'm already signed up for course 2, where we'll learn how to make some more beautiful flowers.

I can't really say when I got into cake decorating.  I started playing around with simple cupcakes and decided to try it more with different techniques.  Then this past summer I really wanted to make my daughters birthday cake.  I had never really used fondant before, but decided to give it a try.  And 9 hours later I was finished!

Finished with Course 1

My Course 1 Final Cake.. I decided to do a super bowl theme cake.

Baby Shower cupcakes with a light purple rose piped on it and topped with silver pearls and silver sprinkles

Playing around with buttercream and different tips in one of my classes

Two-toned Halloween themed cupcake

My daughter's 2nd birthday cake.. and pretty much my first time using fondant!

Our New Years Eve cake with fondant and hand piped candy numbers

Course 1 cake decorating cake.  Simple, but cute

A birthday cake I made for my husband's co-worker's wife.  This is just a close up of the bow.

The full cake.  Everything is done in fondant.  It was a lot of work but tons of fun to make!

In later posts I'll start posting some of my favorite tips, tricks and recipes.

What are some of your favorite cake themes and recipes?

Winter Whites

Freezing.  That is the only way to describe today.  So today's outfit was inspired by winter itself.  The scarf and pearls really tie this look into winter.  And who says you can't wear white after Labor Day?  Pish.  Go for it!

Francesca

Yesterday's outfit was all about comfort.  I love this light-weight cardigan and super soft scarf both from Francesca's.  I decided to stick with the natural theme for the rest of my look as well.

Posh

The saying here goes "If you don't like the weather, give it a second and it'll change."  And they aren't kidding.  70+ degrees on Monday followed by low 30s on Tuesday.  Brrrrr

So with this freezing weather I wanted something warm and comfortable.  And since I had my 3rd cake decorating class, I needed something to easily move in.  Which is why I grabbed for my chunky loose black sweater!  It fits every criteria.  Plus I just love it!

Sequins and Leopard

I love days when I get to sleep in.  Even though I really didn't get to sleep in!  Because of the weather we've had my son's school decided to go ahead and have class today even though it was a scheduled day off.  Thankfully my husband had the day off and was volunteered to take our son to school.  Which meant I got to "sleep in", but I still had to get up and make sure everything was good to go (the right shoes-gym day, his bookbag, folder etc).  But then my daughter woke up and decided to cuddle with me in bed for a little while.  Who can resist morning snuggles?  Speaking off which, my cat Bella, loves to snuggle.  Pretty much every morning I wake up with her all wrapped up around me.  And the second I crawl out of bed she gladly takes my spot!

After my lazy morning, one of my best friends and I finally got to go and get our nails done.  We tried this a couple of weeks ago, but sort of forgot pretty much everything is closed on New Years Day!  Anywho, we finally took the morning and did some pampering.  The two of us have so much in common, but are total opposites as well.  She is all about the bright colors and hippie/boho styles and I favor the dark colors with a classy/chic style.  So we joked that this picture pretty much sums up our friendship!

For today's outfit I really wanted to wear my sequin elbow patch top again, but changed it up with brown accessories instead of black (which I've done here).  I love how changing just a few pieces can totally change your look.

What is your favorite outfit that can be worn in different ways?

Flirty Stripes

My amazing husband who does all the photographs for me!
I LOVE this top.  On most people it would probably work as a dress, but because I'm tall with an athletic build, it just work like that on me.  But that's okay because I'm crazy for tunics!  And this top is so soft and figure flattering.  I tried to get the rest of the outfit muted so my necklace really pops.

I've really fallen in love with boutiques.  I love that they tend to have items I can't find anywhere else and that they are always on trend.  My goal/dream is to one day open up my own fashion boutique.

Where is your favorite place to shop?
